A Summer Engagement Session in Annapolis, MD | Renee + Curtis | 7-28-2021
“What do ya think Nay?” Words from Curtis to his beautiful fiancé, Renee, throughout this AMAZING engagement session.
This was probably the very first time I completely let my couple take the lead on the shoot locations. I had to. I had no way to see things ahead of time. If you’ve ever been to Annapolis, MD, parking isn’t exactly easy. And, without a navigator, I drove blindly around town trying to find the spots Renee (Nay) sent to me with no avail. Being two hours early to miss Baltimore traffic on the way to their session, at one point I drove well out of town just to park and orient myself. Having a chance to look at my phone, I glanced the weather….OH EM GEE… 80% chance of rain at 8:00pm before the sunset. WHAT?!?!? That wasn’t there before.
It’s times like this that I am SO glad I am an early person. I messaged Curtis and Renee and asked if they could start early. I wasn’t going to drive that far to be rained out early. Not on my watch!
The detailed (with picture examples) map of Annapolis that Renee sent me last week came complete with a few lighting notations. This told me she at least understood the importance and had an idea of the spots she was hoping to shoot it. I was ready to just go for it.
We met an hour early at their apartment. They gave me a parking pass to park along their street and walked from there. They truly live DOWNTOWN…and it was amazing. It was like shooting celebrities. They knew almost everyone we passed along the way. It was the sweetest small town feel I’ve ever seen. Curtis even stopped briefly to say hello to his barber as we walked by.
There were moments in certain spots when the lighting wouldn’t have normally worked but just when I was about to give the “its a no-go” speech a wispy cloud would cross the sun in just the perfect way for just enough time to get a few photos in before moving on. We spent fleeting moments in some spots and up to maybe 5 minutes in others moving rapidly through town keeping my clear umbrella close for this evening storm that was supposed to hit soon…which never did. We did end a bit before sunset but ultimately shot for over 2.5 hours. It was fantastic!
At the end, they even invited me up to their adorable apartment for water and I got to meet their sweet Kitty, Daisy, the friendliest cat I’ve ever met.
Since Renee is from the Philadelphia area and Curtis is from Pittsburgh area, they decided to get married on neutral ground in the middle in Mount Joy at Cameron Estate Inn June 2022. I can’t wait to meet everyone!
Renee and Curtis, WHAT FUN WE HAD!!!! I am still reeling over your session and drooling over these photos…I already can’t wait for you to see the rest of them. This was EPIC. I hope you love them as much as I do. And, because I know how hard it is to wait, there will be a surprise in your inbox later today so don’t forget to check!
