Welcome, Connor Jude | The First Weyand Family Session | Wilmington, DE

After their beautiful Old City Philadelphia engagement session, The Barn at Stoneybrooke wedding, and their sister’s engagement session and wedding, it was an incredible honor to help Alexandra and Jon welcome Connor Jude to their happy family in their new home in Wilmington, Delaware. They selected the sweetest classic Winnie the Pooh theme for the nursery, and even Jon himself sketched artwork for the walls. This couple is talented and smart beyond compare and I’m so lucky to call them part of the #meganhofferfamily.

Family sessions with newborns provide a beautiful memory of the first days together in your home. They are slow and low-pressure. If the baby needs a bottle, you give them one. If he needs a diaper or outfit change you do it—and I take pictures of it all. When the baby is ready, we let him shine in more traditional family photos and featured by themselves in their cribs. It’s a precious time, and I love taking a small number of these sessions during our off-season in the winter and when I can make them happen during the busier wedding season months.

As I like to remind everyone, while I have four children of my own, so I understand the needs of babies and parents, I am not safety trained in handling, wrapping, and posing newborn infants and do not have a cozy studio to use, so I don’t take “newborn photos” even though they are often requested. For these family sessions, you will hold your child during the entire shoot except for a few photos, when you will lay him in the crib if he is comfortable being laid down.

I always bring a macro lens to take close-ups of those tiny little toes and fingers, eyelashes, and lips. I also like to take photos of the nursery decor during in-between times.

For Connor, we were also able to bring in his proud pup sister, whom I have also photographed since she was a bitty pup at Alexandra and Jon’s engagement session. At the end of our time together, we found Alexandra’s sister and mom waiting downstairs, and I got caught up on everything happening in their family. That was a real treat!

Alexandra and Jon, thank you for trusting me with these milestone moments in your life. It was amazing to get another hug and see you move gracefully into this new phase of your relationship. Please post Connor updates on Instagram often so I can keep up with the changes as he quickly grows into the fine young man he is sure to be as your son.

And without further ado, here are a few highlights from the shoot…
