A Chickies Rock Overlook Engagement Session | Theresa + Colin
Overlook sessions have been the theme of the last month or so and I’m not upset about it. I have been going to Chickies Rock since I was a little girl. My family moved to Pennsylvania when I was 3 years old and my parents love to adventure. I remember many a “death march”…always worth it in the end but I was definitely a whiny kid and complained loudly about how far my dad would take us on hikes. It is this death march memory that has always kept me from taking couples in the past to the classic overlook view. The girls are in dresses and flip flops for walking (me too) and I don’t want them to get hot and uncomfortable walking “all the way” to the point. (I’m also carrying all my gear and Stanley, my stepladder)
But, after a few fabulous overlook sessions, I had the itch to try it when Theresa selected the area for their session. As an adult I know the “hike” isn’t really THAT far. The problem, was that it was 95 degrees on Sunday. I know I wouldn’t want to do even that little hike in that kind of heat and didn’t want to pressure them into it. So, I came up with a solid plan for the session to keep them as cool and comfortable as possible and would leave it up to them to decide at the end if they were up for it or not. We lucked out with some magic clouds to begin the session cool-er down by the water and by the time we were out in the sun at the first overlook, a small breeze had kicked up that paired beautifully with some hazy clouds swirling like raspberry and orange sherbet with the light of the sun melting it slowly together. It enveloping them in a warm bath of glow…it was PERFECTION.
I had so much already for them by the time it came to deciding “do we hike or do we end” that it was an easy, “Why not?!” We went for it. The sun was setting fast behind some low-lying clouds so we only had a few minutes at the overlook but I’m so happy we did it.
In the moment, I was in the zone and capturing but as I went back through the photos, enhancing them in my post process, it gave me chills a little to think back to that little girl death marching with my family. Who knew I would one day be working there creating art with a wonderful couple. Amazing.
Theresa and Colin, wow. Just….wow. You two were amazing! Theresa, your dress choices were fantastic; your smile, so sweet. Colin, I honestly had a blast with you. Thank you for trusting me and being open-minded to the possibility that it might not be that bad. I hope you two love this sample of my favorites from your steamy Chickies Rock engagement session. I can’t wait to meet the rest of your people next year at Folino Estate. And, because I know how hard it is to wait for the full gallery, there are some surprises in your inbox RIGHT NOW, so go check! XO - Megan
