5 Ways to Level-Up Your Wedding Detail Photos

Your wedding details play a big role in telling the story of your day. You have been planning the details of this day for months if not years. They tell the story of your wedding along with the rest of the events of the day. And that, in my opinion, should be documented.

Practically and scientifically, from a photography and design perspective, the detail photos add variety and contrast from the photos of people. They add a level of luxury to your gallery and albums. An album full of photos of only people can feel busy to the eye. The detail photos give the brain a break from recognizing people and decoding facial expressions. For that reason, the viewing experience is that much more enjoyable when there are photos of “things” intermingled with the people.

Most importantly though...they are pretty.

Up-Leveling Your Details

The detail photos will be some of the first photos taken on your wedding day. They are taken early before you need the items later in the day. Along with your typical rings, shoes, dress and invitation suite, adding a few of these items will add visual interest and help to tell a story within the photo:

  • Clippings from your wedding flowers and greens (you can request/purchase these from your florist…we don’t want to cut anything from your carefully arranged bouquets!)

  • Spools of ribbon in your colors

  • Fruit within your color palate

  • Antique items such as a jewelry box, hair brush, mirror or fork and spoon (to go with the menu cards)

  • Family Heirlooms

If detail photos are not your priority (they do take an average of 45 minutes to take), THAT’S OKAY. I will never pressure any client into including these photos. I am here to serve my clients and their wants and needs to the best of my ability.
