After All These Years - A Touching Blue and Purple Wedding at The Barn at Stoneybrooke | Alyssa + Jonathan 8.30.20
He stood stone still holding his breath. The laughter and sweetness of watching the bridesmaids and his daughter come down the aisle were over. Now Jon waited. He waited for the girl he teased on the bus as children. He waited for the girl he dreamed about in High School. He waited for the girl who saved his life emotionally after time in the service. He waited for the girl who helped raise his daughter from a very young age. He waited for his light in the dark.
He waited for his bride.
Part of him couldn’t believe she picked him and wondered if all this was too good to be true: this beautiful moment, the perfect weather, the perfect venue, the perfect day. Was it too perfect? Within these 30 seconds the catastrophizing began his mind: “Maybe she changed her mind. Maybe something bad happened. The pause was just too long.
“Where IS she?”
Alyssa appeared around the corner on her dad’s arm. Her bright smile shining. She radiated joy.
I have loved seeing these two people together as I got to know them before their wedding day and knew they were so in love but in this moment, I truly “got it.” I could see with great clarity all that is cherished between these two humans. All the pain and all the joy coming together as Alyssa neared Jon down that long aisle.
In this moment, I truly “got it.”
That breath he had been holding released in an audible sigh of relief and he couldn’t help doubling over, slapping his leg and laughing, “You scared me woman!” Everyone laughed and Jon was overwhelmed with love and happiness in this very moment. The moment he had waited for since he was a little boy. He finally got his girl. It was really happening.
As for Alyssa, she will never live a moment without being completely and utterly loved and adored. She will always be supported and valued for everything that she is and will be to herself, her family, her students and to Ava, Jon’s daughter. She will also never need a step stool to get anything down from the top shelf again…I’m a little jealous of that!
The day went so smoothly. Every moment folding into the next. Alyssa’s laugh always the soundtrack to every scene. There was so much joy in this day. From the open barn doors of the venue inviting in cool breezes of the coming fall air to the unicorn cake made especially for Ava, everything was as it was dreamed to be. Yes, they had to reschedule there day. No, they didn’t dwell on that. I am not sure anyone even mentioned it all day. Things happen in their own time. Their relationship. Their wedding. And it is as perfect as can be just as it is.
Alyssa and Jon, what a day! I’m SO happy for you two. I can’t tell you how many times I choked up during your day. I have all the emotions and so much love for you two. I adore your story and I love you all just the way you are. I wish you the happiest of lives together and when a storm does roll in, as they do, I hope you are able to take shelter in each other and weather the storms together. You already know how after all these years. Now you just get to live out the rest of your forever story….together!
