A Colorful Springlike Wedding at Cameron Estate Inn | Katie + Matthew 3.13.21

I stepped out of my car and inhaled deeply. Though it was still winter the air was crisp with a delicious taste of citrusy spring. The warm sun radiated over the ground at Cameron Estate Inn as it sunk, settling into the trees at the far end of the property, just scraping the tops of the branches as it began to retire for the night. It was Katie and Matt’s wedding day.

It would be a day of introductions. A day of welcome. A day of love.

Packing up what gear I could carry from my car I headed in to check on the ceremony site. I knew Katie had talked about warm, spring colors but what I was met with in the Conservatory at Cameron Estate Inn was unreal. In an age of dulled-down green and white there stood the most color I had ever seen in one mantle design. It took my breath away. I love color and these were so happy….like a warm smile…in flower form. Floral Designs of Mount Joy knocked this one out of the park.

As I headed back to my car for another load, I heard murmured speech from afar and caught the word conservatory. Then “Excuse me. Is this the conservatory?” I recognized the excited, but slightly anxious faces of parents about to marry off one of their children. I affirmed that, yes it was and introduced myself. It was Matt’s parents, Tina and Donnie, and it was their first time visiting the estate. I showed them around as we all prepared for the ceremony.

This would be a short day for me. Only 2 hours of wedding day coverage…something COVID has necessitated. That fact and having never met even Katie and Matthew before, might make it easy to brush this wedding off as “it’s just two hours,” get it done and go home. But, that’s basically impossible for me to do. These 6 human beings had come together to celebrate the joining of their families and love between Katie and Matt. I was chosen to be one of 8 people present at the moment these two would become husband and wife. Amazing.

Of the 3 wedding vendors hired to make this day possible, I was there with them through the entire event….ceremony, family photos, husband and wife photos and toasts with dinner as the sun set and ending with sparklers. What an honor.

As the ceremony was about to begin, I heard whispered introductions between Matt’s parents and Katie’s, Nick and Ellen. It made me consider how much Covid has changed right down to couples in love not being able to introduce their parents before their wedding days even. It’s a different world alright! Watching Tina & Don and Nick and Ellen hit it off at their children’s wedding was like magic though. No matter near or far, Covid or not, love will always overcome.

Katie and Matt, thank you for inviting me into this intimate, joyful celebration of the first day of the rest of your lives together. I’m so excited for the journey ahead that can only get better each day. You married in a season of new hope and energy to move on in our world.
